Polaris Audio – Before Your Smaart Class

Before your class — what to bring and install

A little preparation before the class means we can spend both days measuring and learning rather than troubleshooting laptops. Please run through this list before you arrive — it only takes a few minutes.

Your laptop

  • Bring a laptop with Smaart v9 Suite installed — the latest version. If you don't own a v9 Suite licence, download the free 30-day demo from rationalacoustics.com.
  • Your laptop needs an RJ45 (Ethernet) port, or an RJ45 adapter if it doesn't have one built in.
  • You'll need admin access to your laptop — we sometimes need to disable firewalls or adjust antivirus settings to get audio flowing on the network.

Dante Virtual Soundcard

  • Install Dante Virtual Soundcard (DVS) before you arrive — available from audinate.com, either purchased or as a free trial.
  • All measurement audio in the classroom runs over a Dante network, so this one matters — please don't leave it until the morning of the class.
Please note: Dante VIA is not a substitute for Dante Virtual Soundcard — it won't work for the class.

What not to bring

  • No mixers, measurement mics or audio interfaces — everything you'll measure with is provided.

What's provided

  • The full measurement rig — Dante network, mics, interfaces, PA system and processing — is set up and ready when you arrive.
  • Each station has a table, chair and power. Just bring your laptop and the software above.
